This is palest of this cross so far – a large double head
flowering at the same time, almost pure white, very lightly streaked with pink. It seems that Showmaster has a lot of pale
in its makeup with just a superficial brushing of red. It will be interesting to see how Showmaster
x Benfica (a very dark red) will look – one is due to flower in a couple of
days for the first time.

This by contrast is Showmaster x Benfica also from 2011 flowering for the first time. The suggestion that Showmaster does not contribute much to the final appearance of the phenotype is borne out by this one - the dark red genes have completely swamped whatever else is there. It does make you think about what these generic darkish red flowers have in their genetic make-up - the dominant reds could hide all sorts of recessive features.
