Hello all. Figs are once again apparently dead this year. Not quite as cold this winter as last, but a couple nights in the single digits for hours on end. My figs are up against the house (or nearby) and blocked from the North wind.

I have a Lattarula and a Brown Turkey. Both appear predominantly red but as you go right up close to the ground, there are 1 or 2 buds. What's the theory, best to go ahead and cut all the dead wood out down to the active growth or wait it out and see if anything buds any higher up on older growth?

Last year, I cut half of both of the trees down to about 3 feet. Eventually, buds did form but really did not grow all that well. The tree ended up sending all its growth to the new growth coming up from root. Yet, this new growth grew so fast wind ended up breaking a lot of them off. I'm torn as to what to do.
