is the railing on the bed attached to the bed frame itself?

I noticed that things are hanging from some railing. It looks very nice. I'd like to do the same, however, there is a headboard, too. Is the railing attached?

This is a canopy bed, which also happens to have rails/slats between the four posts (bought it that way).
