use a well point to lower the water table?

our basement footing is pretty much built at the water table. non-stop flow of water into sump from march to october. I'm thinking of driving a few well points around the foundation, a few feet from house, to pump out the ground water before it enters the interior sump basin.

will this work?

I know there are better ways to handle this, but i'm looking for a quick/cheap fix while I plan a longer term solution.
