the house was built in 1965, but we can't afford to replace all the windows and paint the exterior (minor repairs to our wood siding is needed) and do the interior as well. So we were wondering if we need to even bother with the windows now.

replacement windows shouldnt effect the wall paint inside, just the casing, so do what order you like as far as that goes.
