Raised flower bed area

Did you have to build up a block wall against the fence for this raised bed in order to protect the fence? Does that matter? I love this look.

    Hi! this is a great question, the answer is yes, the fence needs to be protected from the soil. Redwood fence boards are not (pressure treated) and will simply rot when in contact with soil and moisture.

    In this yard, we installed pressure treated wood along the back side of the wall. We secure this with 4"x 4" post.

    Using the blocks along the back side of the wall, would have increase the material cost by 30% and because of the thickness of the block, it would have taken away 6" of space to, what was already a small planting area.

    We designed two tiers with both 12" and 16" raised beds. The goal was to create dimension in, what was, a flat, rectangular backyard.
