Where are you? Get a new mattress you like. If you are picky or indecisive pay the extra and buy from someplace with a sleep trial.

Whatever you do, check for the law tag on whatever mattress you get from whoever. Make sure it says ALL NEW MATERIALS and it probably has to have a 2015 date now, probably even the compressed imported foam ones. We sell mattresses. With domestic mattrssses, if you buy one I don't have in stock, I order Sunday and the make and ship it to me later that same week.

There is a whole creepy industry which has sprung up that gathers name brand warranty failure and just plain used mattresses and tries to pass them off as scratch n dent or old floor samples and they even get sold in mall stores around here. Ug.

Consumer Reports just did a review of various mattress. Check for recent issues (I think it's the latest, not sure) on newstand or at your library.

We have had mixed experiences with Mattress Firm -- nothing terrible and some good to great. We have also bought through Macy's because we had a very good and knowledgable salesperson working with us there. We were about to buy another mattress at Macy's for ourselves when we decided to check a local manufacturer (because I wanted to try to find a latex mattress like the one we bought at MF for DS - now discontinued). They had latex, but we didn't care for their versions. We did, however find a mattress similar to the Beautyrest were were about to buy but with a higher coil count and gave even better support while still being very comfortable (also has a layer of mini coils on top). The price was similar to Macy's best super sale plus promo deal. Without that super sale and bonus promo, the locally made mattress was 10-20% less than sale pricing and about half of the Macy's list price.

If you are in the Houston area, I would recommend them (let me know if you want a name). That company was started by someone who made mattresses for the name stores and got fed up with the way they were being sold. Otherwise, you might want to look at local makers in your area.

We got our mattress at Room and Board which allows you to return a mattress you are unhappy with. Worth the cost. We ended up changing mattresses (the first was too firm) and are pleased with what we got in exchange. Very few places will let you exchange a mattress. Great quality.
