Impulse buy!!! Cup pulls!!!

Hi guys starting my first thread because I was wondering: has anyone ever had something totally decided - and then suddenly changed their mind completely to something else at the last minute? I'd love to hear your story so I know I am not crazy!

A little backstory - working on my sektion (off-white, grimslov) kitchen and have some nice satin chrome retro arch pulls picked out for the kitchen - but we are doing some matching built-ins in the open concept dining room with dark wood counter, and I wanted something that felt a little different as far as hardware, to differentiate the two rooms. We are doing a "masculine" kitchen and a "feminine" diningroom, if you can catch my vibe....

This has been the hardest decision of the entire kitchen - I have gone back and forth from craftsman to crystal to ORB and had finally absolutely settled on the varnhem from Ikea with its classic modern lines. But something was holding me back from pressing the "checkout" button for the past few weeks.

Then there I was tonight in Lee Valley - I was returning a few arc pulls because I had over-ordered, and decided to "just have a look around" (famous last words!) and I found these satin nickel cup pulls and I just put my hand on them and they felt so smooth and classic and they were dirt cheap and I was like "give me ten of them!" they came to exactly the amount of $ as the pulls I| was returning, like it was fate.

I have no buyers remorse - they will suit the curves of the deco-style ceiling fixture and cove ceilings we have, plus they are great for resale value, but I just shocked myself that I did such a 180 towards a classic pull when I had been leaning towards a more industrial look.

Anyone else ever done a complete 180 at the last minute?

You and those cup pulls were meant for each other!

When we decided to move the stove to the opposite of the kitchen (in order to vent the hood to the outside), I had a glass front cabinet built to slide into the space vacated by the hood. I found a 30x30" piece of marble (on craigslist), to top a 30" base cabinet, left from our bathroom remodel, which would slide into the space vacated by the 30" stove. The new cabinets would be painted to match the existing cabinets. Easy-peasy, no muss-no fuss, right?

Shortly before we were to move the stove, while browsing craigslist (bad habit, that), I found two runs of vintage cabinets that had been salvaged from an old high school. When I read the measurements, I knew that one run was perfect for my kitchen. We bought both runs, completely replacing the wall of cabinets in the kitchen, and installing the second one on a blank wall in the dining room. They had to be repaired, reinforced, and painted, but they look as if they've always been there.

The glass-front cabinet that I'd had built for the baking area fit perfectly over the 30" fridge, and I was able to re-use the orphaned bathroom base cabinet as built-in storage in an upstairs bedroom. I've re-used every door and drawer from the old cabinet run--I love finding new uses for salvaged materials.

Rebunky, sounds like fate intervened! Backsplash is a hard one - when DH and I found "the one" I told him we had to stop looking. Tile stores, to me, are like shoe stores for some women, I want them all!

Mama goose - wow that is a story of change! I love that you are using recycled/reclaimed materials, and obviously those cabinets were meant for you. What did you do about the countertop?

You were actually IN Lee Valley!?! Oh, Nirvana! One of my dream catalogues.

Now, to answer your question. No, I never, ever change my mind. If I buy something, I stick with it. No changing here. (You believe me, right?)

    No.....
    'Nuff smart stuff from me.

I'm with Mama_goose. I change my mind with the weather. Maybe even the wind. Sometimes more frequently than I change my undies, which gratefully, is very often! I find a use for crazy things and turn crazy things into brilliance.
    ("BRILLIANCE," she screamed!)
I am also not afraid to give away, donate or sell stuff that no longer speaks to me. Do a search. You'll find a million stories like this, many with the same question. Almost looking for affirmation that it really is OK to change your mind.

Lemme give you a, "HELL YEAH!"
Good for you to go with what gives you the famous, "ahhhh HAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" moment. Now that you've experienced it, you'll know each and every time that whatever gives you that, "OH. MY. GOD LOOKATTHIS!!!!" feeling, screaming (hopefully inside) is the thing you need to go with.

"Because," she solemnly admonished, "If you don't? You'll never forget that piece and you'll kick yourself for the rest of your life." Now, we can't have that, can we?

CE Freeman - it was exactly like being surrounded by the entire Lee Valley catalogue - Knobs! Cups! Pulls! Oh My! How could I NOT walk out with something?!!!

Wow I love your perspective - what I am hearing is that it's good to trust my own instincts and listen to my inner designer - and there is nothing worse than the one that got away!

Glad I am not alone, guys, it's the "morning after" and I am still okay with my decision. (A little nervous about those hand-painted clogs I just ordered online though. Someone take away my credit card....)

    Hand. Painted. Clogs.

I picture you as the little Dutch girl. Please tell me I'm way off on that one...

But really. If they speak to you when you get them!? Slip 'em on and clomp around proudly.
"PROUDLY," she screamed! Waving arms wildly and clomping in circles!

When we did our kitchen, I picked out some lovely pulls, had them installed and then hated my kitchen. It just didn't feel right. I changed to cup pulls and instantly the whole vibe of the kitchen changed and I loved it. Suddenly it was everything I wanted it to be. Hope you love yours as much I love mine.

LOL I am blonde and half-dutch, so yah I am going to rock these ! Or it may just be the effect of too much Ikea (Ikea-itis?????)

Aw daisychain that makes me excited about them!

I have a pair of traditional, hand-painted wooden clogs that I display on the FP hearth--but they're itty-bitty. They fit my blue-eyed, blonde grandson, who would often put them on when he was 2-3 yrs old. In his denim overalls he looked just like a little Dutch boy.

stephanj, I replaced the wood countertop of the kitchen cabinet with black marble tile, then painted the DR countertop black, to match. I re-used the original, hefty, 1¼" thick, solid wood countertop for shelving in a closet.

mama_goose my Dad is dutch and he always wore wooden shoes when gardening. We put some decorated ones on the hearth at Xmas. Love that re-used the old counter!

I used to have a pair of Dutch clogs from a trip to the Netherlands. I wore them out in my garden years ago.

I purchased my pulls for my kitchen and then saw Badgergal's pulls and wanted to switch to her pulls. I was not in love with what I purchased, so it would have been easy to swap (not sure if I could have returned them anyway)

Badgergal knocked total sense into me and talked me into staying the course. I love my pulls and my kitchen - although Badgergals would have been great as well.
