Houston Newbie needs help selecting perennial shrubs

I come from frozen North so am not familiar with TX plants. Need to plant a few varieties low perennial shrubs that will go together and are easy maintenance in front of front porch. north face in Houston. My options are dwarf pittosporum, hawthorne, boxwood, dwarf holly, ligurum. What do you recommend or any other suggestions. I will also have a few knockout roses there.
