Slow coming out of dormancy

Hi,

I've had my plumeria for a few years and this winter I decided not to water it at all as I didn't want to risk rot. I woke it up about two months ago and the leaf claws are very slowly moving out from the centre but seem very reluctant to start to green up and grow. She's in the sun on warm days and under lights on the others so she has no excuses! Any ideas why she's so slow?

They are all different.. I think it's doing its thing and waking when it's ready.. Some of mine have leafed out inside and some that are in the greenhouse are still bare... No worries.. Give it some time!!! ;-)

Same here - none of mine are FULLY leafed out yet and I brought mine out around March 20! (In Texas!) Some are partially leafed out and some haven't even really started at all. I was wondering to myself, is it like this every year and I just don't remember?! LOL Probably so. We've had a lot of rain since March 20th too which is good, they're getting a slower introduction to the brutal sun & also getting all that magical plant power from the rain! haha This time of year they can get sunburned badly not having the leaf cover.

Hang in there, they are on plumeria time! :) Although it would normally apply to inflos, I think jandeys "ohcomeonalready" can apply to leafing out too!

Hi, thanks for your comments I'll try to be patient! Is there abenefit to the plant going dormant or is it something that I can skip to avoid this agonising wait each spring?!

cadia.... Mother Nature lets her trees in Hawaii go into a dormant phase there too., it is part of nature and we all try and do what is best for our trees

Most of mine are put into dormancy and they will wake up when they are ready.,, I do keep some seedlings and others that I have just rooted under T-5 lights set up in my home during the winter. This is an option if you want to keep them growing longer.., you will find that the spider mites like the lights too and will infest your trees more so than the ones that are dormant because of the heat and humidity levels... If you keep them inside for the dormant period.

Some in Southern California didn't really have a wi yet this year at all. ( BRATS). Lol. I do know a few that have had their trees keep their leaves all winter and haven't slowed down. A few in the same yard did drop leaves.. It all depends on the varieties , and other conditions....

Its really up to you and what you want, but the tree will naturally start to drop their leaves and want a rest period.. You can always let it rest and then introduce it to lights a little earlier to get a head start.. Just musing....
