It is a very small room. On the wall opposite to the window wall, there is a sliding door closet where we gave installed shelves. We each have chairs on rollers on each side of the desk.What I'm trying to figure out is how I can utilize that big desk top better.

Would you be willing to get rid of things? Cause if so, I could help.

bath, I think it's like trying to work around the elephant in the living room. With the size and shape, there is really nothing else you can do with it except what you have. If you could cut it and shape it to where it hugs the walls instead of the wide piece in the center, I think it would work better for your space. Then you could do closed cabinets on either side of the chair space under your monitor to hide your wires.

I agree, but don't think that is in the cards for now. The wires under the desk are covered; It is wires and cords at the back of the desk to which I was referring. I'm more wondering it there are organization systems that could be placed on the desk top to utilize that space in a sleek organized way. Thanks.

If the wires and cords are chargers, there are charger stations you can get that will hold everything.

If it's just random cords, a bludot cable box might help. There are also behind the desk cable management systems.

The desk looks fine to me. If you restrict to placing the laptop or anything that requires a cord along the window wall then the cables would be hanging out in the middle of the desk where you two share.

There is a hole on each side of the desk to feed cable and wires through.

A patient and skilled installer should be able to accomplish both the removal and new install without having to remove the desk. Obviously it was built on top of the old carpet. Cutting out the old around it will take time, It also will continue to support the desk, although a new shim here and there would help as well. You may need an extra seam to wrap around the support but that should not be an issue.
Have you though of carpet tiles? It is a more modern look, better to roll your chairs on and easier to install once the old stuff was removed.

Thanks so much. I wasnt concerned about how to carpet with it there -- just wanted to know what to do with the big wide open desk top that looks cluttered if you put stuff on it.

what if you put a runner down the middle to break it up, and added a plant or two to make it feel more inviting. You could even add a long oval or rectangle bowl or tray to collect any mail, or odds and ends that end up on the desk.

Here's the problem. The desk is not only an elephant in the room; it's also a big white elephant. I think a new built in that faces the wall is a better use of space and will make the room bigger. I had a very small office and built an L-desk and credenza that covered 2 walls and the room looked much bigger
