If done well, Accent walls are a nice compliment. I'm finding as a Property Manager in Central Florida, that accent walls follow cultural preferences as opposed to being a universal design concept. In our tropical environs, accent walls aren't a fad, they are a feature. If you want one, go for it!

In studying your picture, I'm guessing that if you paint the accent wall a plum color, you won't be happy with it. I think the plum will clash with the wood laminate floors. Unless you have some dining furniture that will work well with a plum accent wall . . .

I'd love to see the finished project once you are finished & furnished.

Hello! When it comes to your home it's important that it reflect your personality. You need to like the space and feel comfortable in it. A lot of people still like accent walls. So if you want an accent wall, you should go for it. It's just paint. You can always paint over it if you change your mind. Accent walls work well in areas you want to draw attention to. They make a great focal point. Try using accent pillows or artwork that feature a splash of each color to bring cohesiveness and harmony to the space. Good luck and have fun!

Thank you all very much for your thoughts. RPM, the floors are solid cherry that when we refinished tried to tone the red down. They are dark, as is the dining room table. The plum I'm thinking of is one I used in a previous dining room and it worked with the wood tones. Picking the grey is what's really baffling me. And, your right - if I like it, give it a try. Paint is easy to fix - and my husband is a good painter. Thanks again and I'll post the finished product -- which can't happen soon enough for me.

I'm not an expert but I think a navy wall would look amazing with your cherry floors.

they probably made up their mind in the last year...

I think accent walls can still be used.

If you like them then I suggest you do it.

You can use paint, wallpaper, other various wall treatments.

I think their use ebbs and flows like other trends but can still be beautiful if executed properly.

thanks for your feedback. The wall is still bare, but I have the paint -- it will be a soft, dusky, grey purple -- very close to a previous dining room and it looked wonderful
