Hi Kathy, I'm not sure about the Hardiplank, but I use Command hooks for hanging wreaths outside. They have some decorative hooks, but in most cases the wreath covers the hook. I have one in brushed nickel for our front door to match the hardware on the door. However, as I mentioned, the design of the wreath can hide the hook.

This link might help. It says you can't use the hooks on brick. I use them on brick for our outdoor lights at Christmas.

I love Command hooks and have one permanently on my front door. Only because the strip tore and I couldn't remove it. Luckily I have a fairly dark door and I used a dark hook. I use Command for so many things, even found small bins.

Are you worried about damaging the Hardiplank with a hole or is the concern that the Hardiplank might shatter?

If the Hardiplank has proper backing and you aren't planning on hanging a 300 pound wreath then the HP should be able to handle it. If possible center the wreath on a location with solid backing. Tap the wall looking for studs or furring strips. Drill a small pilot hole first (hole sized appropriately to the screw) and use a screw with a standard picture hanger hook. Avoid using nails.

Yes..these work great on hirizontal siding but the front of my home the hardiplank is horizontal so there is no little groove to use these hooks. I am going to try outdoor command strips because I do not want to drill holes for screws after spending $55k to upscale our home exterior. This is my first holiday season with hardiplank and I always hang wreaths, garland and other decor on my porch.
