Kitchen Update

Looking for advice on updating this kitchen area. I am keeping the oak cabinets and stained trim, but would like to update with new paint, countertops, tile and hardware. Will also be adding stainless steel appliances. The kitchen is open and adjoins the living room. The back wall has a set of white patio doors. Lots of help needed. :)I have attached some pics - excuse the mess as we are doing some drywall repair work.

I see in your ideabooks you tend to have more blue kitchens. A good choice with your honey oak cabinets. You have lots of choices. I attach some inspiration photos. Both have lighter countertops which might work well with your space. Also, updated hardware to nickel would make the cabinets not look as yellow. I'm sure your going to get lots of good ideas from Houzzers. Pick out the ones you like and start building on them. I would pick out the counters first.

Beautiful color of blue! I have been thinking about going with a more neutral color for paint so that I can switch up other accents when I get ready for a change. The light countertops would allow me to do that, but I have also been considering a honed basalt slate laminate. The brushed nickel hardware is definitely on my list.

Yes, I really like the dark countertop in this the best; however, I have seen a number of comments on how difficult it is to keep it looking clean. I'm not sure if the honed basalt slate laminate might be easier since it doesn't have a glossy finish or if anything dark is a bad idea. I also am looking for the right tile combination that doesn't lock me into a limited color scheme.

I think glass tile would be lovely. The last picture has white tile which would be fine, but for some reason I'm thinking glass with your floors.

The tile really makes a difference. I love the look, but I'm not sure how far my budget will go and if it is a wise investment given that we may not be here very many years. Great suggestions- I'll see how it goes.

Subway is one of the least expensive tiles. Kitchens have a huge impact on the value of a house and getting bang for your buck. You can always establish a relationship with a relator now. have them walk through the house. Ask them what you can do over the next few years to add the quality of your life while you live there and added resale down the road.

what about this color of blue? I think it's a bit more neutral. With this back splash. Also, not sure your budget, but could you add some trim to the top of your cabinets? I think that would really add some interest as well.

Good suggestion, Miacometlady. I am going to look into this a little further. They just finished the drywall repair work and I have been busy cleaning! I have someone coming to measure for countertops in the morning, but I still have not decided on what type or color for sure. Too many decisions!
