It's for the living room, family room, kitchen. We have high ceilings, so especially for the can lights, which light do you recommend?

Go with what you like. I have different lights in different parts of the house for a variety of reasons including that's what my husband bought at the store.

I like the yellow lights as they do make the living room cozier at night when I'm reading or watching TV.

These rooms sound like they are all near each other, if not open to each other. It is important then to stay within the same lighting hue. Go with LED lamps and make sure they are not too "blue." With high ceilings, LED will require less changing of lamps because they last longer. AccuLamp or Green Creative will have the bulbs you will need.

I like close to sunlight for ambient lighting (can lights), so I vote white, dimmable, LED lights. You can use warmer lights for decorative lighting.
