I'd like to water our raised beds with water from our rain barrel (which cannot be situated near the garden, sadly, so I'll be carrying by hand). Especially since it's non-potable water, I'd like to be careful about watering just at the soil level and not splashing on the leaves. With pretty much any watering can I've seen this can get very difficult, especially with larger plants with bushy leaves. And the drip irrigation systems I've seen generally seem to be focused around using the tap, rather than a barrel or similar. I've seen a couple of gravity-fed systems, and that's probably how I'll go eventually, but I don't have the time/budget/inclination to get that in place for this year.

So, any recommendations on watering gadgets that help keep the water down and away from the leaves? It's a double win, since in addition to the above concerns it cuts down on water usage, but...I just haven't found a device that seems to make it particularly feasible. I was thinking something along the lines of the handheld sprayers like people use to spray fertilizer or weed killer, since they have a handheld reservoir of water and the long wand that could get down below all the leaves. But with the ability to have more of a low flow than a spray... Does anything like this exist?
