Skinny Room with Brick Corner

I need help styling this room. It is 19x9, and has an old brick mantel in the corner, which once housed a wood burning stove. The current owner used it as a dining room, but we want to use it as a family room/den area. Any ideas for the brick mantel, or must it be removed? I would love to be able to have a TV in this room, what would be good placement? There is a large entry way, with french doors on the opposite wall, and windows on each side of the room. We are going to pull up the carpet and replace with wood floors.

My first thought was to use the brick area for your TV, but with the alcove across from it, I'm not sure that would work for other furniture placement.
What furniture do you plan on using in this room? Sofa, sofa/love seat combo, sofa/chair/s combo, etc?

I would love to have a sofa and a couple of chairs in the room.

I would think it could work with the TV in the brick area if you find the right mount for the TV and cabinet to go below. You could put a table in the alcove for photos, decorative items, and a lamp with the sofa in front of it. The only way I see you could have two chairs in there is if you use the area with the wood floor as a separate seating area. Maybe a pro will come on with a better idea.

Think about a sofa for the nook with a coffee table. Use two small scale chairs in a pretty fabric floating to face the French doors (the backs of them will be seen from the entry.) Mount TV on an articulated arm in the bricked corner. Not sure I'd put a credenza under it. Maybe just something big enough to hold the gear and then camouflage with more of the green plants underneath to continue the sunroom feeling. You might have room for a chaise in the corner where they have that upholstered armchair. Try a wool sisal area rug for more of a sunroom feeling and some texture to stand up to the brick.

Have you inquired with any contractors about removing the brick? It seems that if that corner were no longer a different material, your options would be greatly expanded.

I agree with Michelle, that removing the brick would be the best option. Then the sofa could go there with the TV on the opposite wall.
Also when giving the dimensions, do they include the wood floor area too or just the carpeted area?

If the brick cannot be removed - using it as a plant area makes sense - maybe with some sort of airy shelving or something - but really, the best option is to remove it. Since it had a free standing stove, and it appears that the venting has already been removed - the brick looks to only be applied to the sub floor and wall. - carpet, drywall & paint repairs - viola! no more dilemma!
