SeaSide Tomatoes

Attempting to reverse our brown thumb history by being smarter about how and what we plant. Living on the water in the US Virgin Islands has many pluses, but salty sea air makes some gardening tougher. Via forum reading, have developed a tomato plan:

Picked a location that is out of main sea air blast, but is still exposed, maybe too much. Has full sun.

Sprouted some store bought cherry and medium tomato seeds, planted the heartiest (4 mediums & 3 cherries) to small pots and recently transferred them to 2 gallon plastic pots.

Experimented by using straight Promix BX on some and store bought potting soil on others. Everybody is on a drip system set at 1 quart @ 6:00AM daily

All plants are about 18" high and flowering, but looking poorly, top leaves are faded green, bottom leaves are yellow, with some shriveled & brown leaves. Reviewing what I did, Assumed store bought soil mixes were complete, just realized that they need to be fertilized as well. Gave everybody an emergency dose of MG All Purpose as per label. (store out of MG Tomato)

Hopefully this will revive our maters.

If they survive, planning to transfer up to 5 gallon pails, using 100% ProMix BX, mixing in Osmocote granules and continuing with MG Tomato water soluble fert.

*Thoughts on why plants are struggling?

*As ProMix does a good job of moisture retention, is it worth doing the 2 nested buckets (self-watering) setup?

On the positive side got a bumper crop of Papaya's due soon.
