Nice job sey! I like your plant and your bark mulch too. I recently mulched all my plants too. My Brandy Boy and Big Beef plants (2 ea.) are holding many fruits the size of grapes. My Black Cherry has a truss of 7 that will be ready in a couple weeks...me thinks.

Good luck Cary. And thanks Fireduck. Both of my Big Beef and Brandy Boy have flowers, probably in pollination stage. I am betting that Big Beef will have the first ripe fruit in beefsteak category. Half a dozen of other varieties have buds too. Need some warmer weather to speed up the process.

After the Mothers Day, we hit a cool snap.
But help is on the way: Starting this coming Thursday, the weather is going to improve, with more sun and warmer temperatures that should give my plants more energy.
I will do some inventory checking on the situation on Thursday.

I envy that strong, stocky plant. Mine looked like snakes when I planted them.

I have flowers on both Bloody Butcher plants. BB is moving along faster than the others planted on the same day.

Harry, .. don't worry ! Once planted, your tomatoes should get strong an stocky. Outdoor fresh air is something else.
Last year my Bloody Butcher was one of the firsts. So, if yours have flowers, you should get ripes late June.

Other than HGT ( as in my opening post) , my big Beef and Big Boy have couple of flowers passed pollination stage but no fruits are visible yet . We need some warmer weather to keep things moving.

Nothing much to look at but this is my first tomato fruit. The weather was and still is not tomato friendly. The soil is saturated with water, and it is cool most of the time. All of my tomatoes are flowering but they do not set fruits. So out of the other 10 varieties only Legend was able to set the fruit. It is the winner in my local competition.

I noticed yesterday that a Gold Nugget (yellow cherry) and the second Sungold I bought are both setting fruit.

These plants are both for a friend of mine, so I can't get too excited. I am going to help her plant them on her balcony, I think next weekend. She terms herself as a "plant killer" but also really loves fresh food. I will try to set her up for success. Hey, I have killed a lot of plants too - it's just that more survived than died! :)

So far for me, the list of set fruits is: Sungold (x2), Sweet 100, Indigo Rose, SunSugar, Gold Nugget, Cherokee Purple. Can't believe I gave four of these plants away HA!

Very nice, Antmary. Considering all those inclement conditions you are doing just fine. Legend is bred by OSU for cold PNW type of climates. It is Parthenocarpic , meaning that it can set fruit without pollination ( seedless fruits, almost) . I am growing some of it too. But mine are in bud stage.

My dwarf HGT is pumping real good. So far has 4 fruits and loaded with flowers. Big Beef is right behind. Then come Brandy Boy, CP, and Polish dwarf. It is a nice orchestra playing in my garden.

The Legend tomato went into productive mode and keeps setting fruits. I found five more pea-sized tomatoes. Here is my second after Legend tomato with fruit: Lida Ukrainian.

More and more varieties flowering every day. Cherokee Purple is the 3rd . It has 2 big trusses.

The 4th of July is way way behind. It has buds. So it is not going to be early at all.
Probably my BgBf is going to beat them all, including Siletz. My CP should take the second spot in earliness. It is too early to call this early in the season. I have over 30 varieties. Almost ALL of them have buds and most have flowers.

Alright ! I love this, hearing how you guys are getting even ripe fruits. That gives me pleasure and hope .

Spotted the first tiny fruits over the course of this week and it got me stoked. Insofar as raising your own food can give you a "rush", I guess that's where it's at right there.

First one to show up was Sweetie Cherry, second was Paul Robeson, and third was San Marzano. I don't even think I could take a decent photo because they're so small, but maybe I'll give it a try soon!

Photo taken this morning is one of the 5 CPs planted on April 25. 4 out of 5 cps have fruits. All 8 BigBeef planted on May 2nd have fruits (similar size to photo). None of celebrity, big boys and beefsteaks have fruit yet. All 3 Early Treats (seeds from homedepot claiming 53 days) have (smaller than BgBf) fruits.

We are having a severe drought in NE. It's a real challenge for maintaining my "no watering" tomato experiment. i watered only twice so far: once at planting and 2nd time a few weeks after planting. So far seems so good.

Thanks to the warmer than usual weather, I'd predict 1st ripe bigbeef on July 1st (modified from previous prediction of July 4th) and 1st ripe cheery before July 1st. Ironically, the drought has helped soil temprature, me think.

hp, I guess you have real warm temperatures in MA.
Some of my CP planted much earlier just setting fruits so does my Big Beef.
We have been just getting temps in 70s, low 80 recently.

It all starts with the First Fruit. Then second ....One cannot bypass the first fuit and go to the second fruit. That is how important it is the first fruit.

Then after "The First Fruit" comes the first ripe fruit. I want that one. hehe.

I wish my camera phone was better. These were my first non-cherry tomato fruit (Kellogg's Breakfast). Can't wait for them to ripen up and we're making bets on the final weight. Already happily eating the Sun Golds and Black Cherries when I can beat my husband to the ripe ones.

Marvel Striped is getting me interested with masses of tomatoes (my pictures of the other fruit on this plant didn't come out well). Haven't tasted this one before, hope it's good because it's the most productive tomato on the garden so far.

And another new one, Dixie Golden putting out the tomatoes. Seems to be some blushing on several of them that my camera does not pick up well.

I'm in zone 2b - I just put my plants in the ground last weekend! Nice pictures, something to look forward to, that's for sure.

Supersonic that I purchased from a box shop which had about 3 flowers on it. it only cost $1.99 so I did it, There were actuly 2 supersonics in there and sepereated them, the smaller one I repotted into a small container so it could grow. and planted this one around May 14th..ish. He is surounded by jersey Boys and summer girls (which both have now started to show signs of flowering.) The supersonic is starting to take ground but I do not know the date he was seeded ect.... Should be interesting on which one's thrive in the same enviornment and potting mix. Which is a mixture of 3 year old 5-1-1 and MG Moisture control.

A mix of the tomatoes I harvested today. I pick most at color break. Lately that has been my SOP due to the fact that it has rained for 13 of the past 14 days. While here we only got a bit of it. The heat, and high humidity that comes within an hour of the rain stopping is taking its toll.

First ripe Jubilee. It was planted at the same time as all of the others were.

This is my first fruit, I think it was a fused blossom. You can see the second fruit behind it (maybe). It's an Anna Russian that went under a WOW in early April.

Here's my mind-bending megablossom Paul Robeson. I may be cheating if we're talking "first fruit"... I think a couple cherry tomatoes popped the day before I noticed this one. But this dude is certainly is a better conversation-starter!

Somehow I've been missing this thread for awhile. Its great seeing everyone's progress! Centexan, that's a beautiful harvest. I see some purples on the left and a gorgeous yellow on the right - what varieties?

So I posted this on another thread but it seems appropriate here... My first ripe... naturally it's a Sungold...

I actually JUST ate a couple more for breakfast - one tiny, and one average sized and slightly green on the bottom still - was going to wait, but it was split - it was actually delicious, had much more "tomato" flavor than the other two. I will have to continue picking them at different stages and compare the flavors.

I think my next ripe will probably be Gold Nugget. Stupice, Mountain Princess, and Black Krim are all still stars of early fruit set, just as one would expect. Especially Black Krim - it wasn't even flowering until it was set out, so I am very impressed with the multiple babies all over the plant now.

And of course, the Cherokee Purple is exceptional. 20 days ago, I posted this picture:

I was worried that first CP was kind of pointy looking like a heart tomato, thought maybe the plant was mislabeled, but the other fruit looks correctly shaped. :)

My plants are in tip top shape, all loaded with buds and flower, w/ near perfect foliage in color and vigor . It is just fruit setting that is lagging behind. Part of this slow action in the garden is due to cool nights. The lows are around 53F. Even we get lows in 40s now and then.
