We need to choose a carpet for upstairs hallways and two bedrooms and are leaning toward a cut and loop diamond pattern carpet like this picture. Thoughts on pattern carpet? If you have it, does it wear well (we have a dog and three kids)? Did you get tired of it over time? Is it trendy?

Hardwood was almost $20K more to match the look we have on the main floor, so carpet is probably our only option...but I want it to be a carpet I'll be happy with for many years.
