Need advice on gas fireplace

I have a corner fireplace (gas) in a rather long and narrow den. How difficult/expensive is it to move the fireplace to the side wall? Planning to keep it close to where it is now but designing around the existing location is difficult.

Have you considered doing two sitting areas, you mentioned the den was long. A small intimate area in front of the fireplace, another chair with a table between the two, and maybe a short book shelve under the window. Then have a TV viewing area.

I guess it depends if you will have the firebox inside or if it is an outside wall... The gas line is not usually a big issue to run. What will you do with the former corner space afterward, do you think?

I guess I won't know about the firebox until I get the job started. Hopefully a contractor can tell me. I'm assuming I won't be able to square off the room and so thought I would just drywall it. Any better ideas?

Does the current firebox extend outside or is it built into the wall? If it's all inside then maybe the room can be squared off? You're probably best to get a contractor 's opinion or two...

About $5000 if it can be done. Do you have a chimney or is it direct vented?

I just had a gas fireplace installed. The total install was $2500. Yours might e less as I assume you will have most of the parts; you would just need to extend the gas line.

I think that you do need to add an area rug to anchor this grouping though.

Easy if it is a direct vent and physically in the room but behind drywall. By easy I mean a few grand. You could do it yourself if you can do Sheetrock work, gas plumbing, light electrical, and get the mantle down without destroying it. 15 years ago I would say it's a weekend project, now I would call "the guy."
