if you pull the angled one forward (towards the camera) and slide the side table up to its end on the far side does that work? whether you leave it angled or not, the asymmetry might not be so noticeable if the far ends werent matching...?

i wouldnt put anything behind the couch, its good to have some space to fuss with the blinds and just generally breathe.

The end of the table is at the end of the angled chaise. The chaise cannot really go forward much because there is a piano at the other end of the chaise. I will attach a photo in a second.

i'm not a fan of cow hides but your choice is excellent, the non-standard edge takes the notice away from the angle of the couch.

Thanks. I thought that I might put a long table behind the sofa that spans almost the entire wall. I was thinking a 12 foot table that was low to the ground that could hold plants. But maybe that is just too much.

I love that your window is almost to the floor. A table behind the sofa might disguise this. Your room is amazing as is. Really beautiful.

well yes, if you want to put plants on a low table then of course you should. i was thinking you were just wanting to put a sofa table behind the sofa, for no particular reason.

Can't you pull the sofa closer to the chaise so they are centered on the fireplace?

Sandradclark - Thanks. We just moved a few months ago so its a work in progress! I cant put the sofa closer to the chaise because there isnt enough room with the coffee table. No one would be able to walk around and there would be a lot of open space behind the sofa.

Lila- I never thought about the fact that thats a long window. Maybe I should really rethink the table idea.

Love your room! And the art work is amazing! Maybe it's the angle of photo, but I think there is ample room to move couches in to center. With the current positioning, can you even reach the table when your are seated?

view16- I guess there is room but it looks very odd to have the sofa and chaise pushed so close together when there is so much empty space around the rest of the room I guess. Thanks for the compliment about the artwork. I love to paint.

Wow! This is your art work? Wow! I don't know if you have room or not by window, but here is an idea. A table up against the window. It could display some more of your art! And it would be fantastic as a buffet when you entertain. Or even a writing desk. Might balance the room a bit. Maybe you could move couches into center with this option. I read somewhere the distance between couch and coffee table should be 18". Maybe it's a matter of personal taste, though. I'm not sure why I am giving you advice! I think with your natural artistic talent, you will do just fine with your new space!

view16 - I must confess that this is now twice during this post that I am guilty of not showing the full picture. There is another wall in my living room. I have a dresser that I love that I purchased it on Craigslist but it needs to be refinished and I haven't gotten around to it yet. As you can see, the veneer is peeling. I love the shape though. I think its totally funky! And...my kid threw a baseball through the wall a day or two ago and I didn't want to show the damaged wall. The baseball hole is now covered by the mask above the dresser. Although I love the idea of a writing desk, I don't want it to compete with the dresser. And, I already have a marble table and stool behind the chaise. I was thinking a lower, bench height, long table and maybe trying my hand at some really funky but simple macrame planters to hang from the ceiling just above the bench. I have never done macrame but how hard can it be???? I will attach a photo of the style of planters and the dresser in a second.

ilikefriday, will you post a picture of that large piece of artwork in the room beyond the funky dresser wall? From the part we can see of it in the background of that photo I love it and I'm dying to see the whole thing! Love the one above your fireplace too! You're a fantastic artist and/or have great taste in art (if some of them aren't yours).

jillwk - This painting is in my dining room. It isn't finished but it's my first time trying my hand at impasto which is a very thick paste that you mix with oil paints and apply with a knife instead of a brush. I'm not a professional artist and have never taken classes but I do love to paint/ create. I did all the art in my house with the two exceptions of one in my living room that isn't shown and the several that are shown that my 8yo created. I ALWAYS have an art or building project going.

jillwk - I absolutely love all forms of art and I think it can totally transform the feel of a space. I applaud anyone who is able to create what they love on their on for their house. Even if its not perfect it makes a house seems so much more cozy to me. Can you post some of your work?

I completely agree. Seeing a home with unique, interesting art always makes me so happy. It seems such a rare thing and I have to constantly remind myself that not everyone feels the same way about art as I do so I can't expect it to be a priority for everyone. It really does liven up a space though!

I'm about to head out for a busy weekend, but I'll try to remember to take pictures of some of my stuff when it's over.
