leaf tips turning brown

last modified: 11 years ago

Hi all! I'm newish to gardening and a newish mostly-lurker to gardenweb. I've recently planted quite a few things in a flowerbed and several of them have brown tips on the leaves, but not consistently. For example there are 2 peony plants (just leaves, not blooming this year cause they're new), one looks great and the other has brown, dry looking leaf tips. my rosemary has brown tips as well. sunflowers, hydrangea, iceland poppy, and knockout roses look healthy.

I've been watering fairly deeply every few days because we haven't had rain and I've fertilized with miracle grow plant food (the blue crystals mixed into water) a few times (spaced weeks apart). Red clay soil, but at the top of a slope so it seems like decent drainage.

what do you think it causing it? too much/little water? too much fertilizer? some kind of virus or fungus??
