It originated in Sweden, it should do good for you since it's your zone. Mt. Royal is a zone 4 but much better eating quality, large, with little protection it might do OK,.. do you know on what root they're on.

Hi Konrad

As a native North American I have had little exposure to Damson plums with the exception of what I have bought at farmers markets. They make one of best jams of any kind that I have ever tasted. Hardy to zone 2, self fertile.
I live in the inner city with little space and will fan two of them up against a south facing fence. My suspicion is that they will be harder to train than other fruit trees. Therein may lay my challenge.

I see I am not the only one having a hard time finding info. It should produce a blue coloured damson plum. I think all damsons are blue. Excellent jam, maybe the best ever? I know thats a bold statement but damson jam is stunning. Damson plum does come to the Calgary farmers market and I assume others too, just ask around come late summer. Out of hand, well, its not for that.

I planted 2 whips and pruned them as a fan against a fence. One died the following year, not due to winter but due to accidental Roundup over-spray from the folks across the fence. I looked for a replacement but to no avail.

My lone little guy is doing well. There were flowers last year but no fruit set. A bugger to prune for shape as it does what it wants to do with no care or consideration for what I was pruning it to do. A mind of its own that way. This year was a hard winter and I saw zero tip die-back come spring. Its looking healthy this year although no signs of flower activity.

I may have scion wood next season for those who want some.

Excellent link. But it does show some red colour damsons in this article and I’ve read theremaybe some green and white or very light blue thatbthey almost look white. Wondering what the kirkon looks like . I guess we will find out next year.

What you need is a Swedish gardener to help you(and I ) with that question.

So where did you get your Krikon Peeniwali? Seems the flower buds died this winter, normally it has flower buds when it has flowered for you.

Mine is the real english blue damson, been growing good but I have cut back..some plums are on now. The green damson Matt, actually is called white damson...like a small green gage, have some plums on but cut back allot since I like larger plums.
