I grow Chinese wild ginger( Asarum splendens )on the north side of the house in full shade for over 10 years, every spring it looks like it didn't make it but as it warms up it starts to grow and bloom. This is the only wild ginger I've had any luck with.

Asarum is a very good option if you have absolutely dense shade. It can't tolerate the heat from the sun, really. It's flowers are hidden under the foliage, but the foliage is beautiful enough. It's hardy to at least zone 5b (Sharon/Blackstone Valley corridor) which is where I was gifted my clump of Asarum. It is very successful in that 5b garden. An issue with this is that it is dangerously poisonous. People who are confused about its name and might try to eat it are in for a fatal treat.

I remember trying to overwinter culinary ginger in my garden once. LOL. It's not hardy, but will tolerate being dug and repotted indoors.

I love the flowers on it. I found out they don't smell very good almost like rotting meat
