They are, and the only way I know to enjoy them longer is to bring them inside before it rains. They take well to refrigeration, so partly open buds can be stored and delayed in their bloom cycle as well.

There are no ants crawling on them. I would like to lengthen the amount of time that they stay alive outside, because they are so pretty in the bush!

We cut them and put them in vases. They get so heavy they droop over to the ground and quickly die outside. They are beautiful blooms.

Must cut a bunch and bring them inside- they look lovely in a vase and smell fabulous! The ants usually crawl all over the blooms while they are still a tight ball before they open up. I am waiting for mine to bloom...

Beautiful peonies - my favorite! And yes, they attract ants that feed on the nectar. From what I know, peonies like to be left alone as long as they are getting enough sunlight. Perhaps your local garden store can offer some advice for your growing zone now that you have identified them.

They are peonies and they do like to be left alone. If you pick them in the morning ants aren't as bad. If you stake them they want bed over as badly, you can find circular stakes at home stores. I moved some 15 years ago, the bushes are now 50 years old, the first two years after the move they did not bloom. If you pick them when they first begin to bloom, they will last longer. I always smash the ends and change the water every two days.

The ants open them, & smell great. I enjoy mine outside.

There are few flowers that smell as great as peonies! I have several around my yard. First, they do die back but don't cut them until they do. Yep, Ants. Pick in the morning and try to give them a little shake. Third, short vase because their stems aren't very long. Fourth, their blooming stage isn't all that long so you can tell before picking if they will produce another bud. It seems like mine will have a secondary bud down the stem that has shriveled so nature might have just given her a spare. One of my bushes was a hand me down from my grandmother so I always pick several buds, wrap the stems with damp paper towels and close them up in a Ziploc. They keep through Memorial Day so I can take them and place them on her grave.

I love peonies! These remind me of where I grew up in the Midwest. We used to cut them and put them in vases.

Love my peonies, I look forward to every mid May to enjoy the just a few weeks. I like to go out every few days and cut some for inside, they last several days in water in my window sill. Here they are today!

I think one of my peonies is very similar to yours, not sure of the name tho. I love the deep purple and red ones best!
