Here's a different kitchen

I thought this was refreshing and interesting, and I really quite like it. Definitely not the same kitchen you see all the time! I can't imagine it's very functional. The fridge is not shown. Hope it's close by, along with a pantry, so there's somewhere to keep food :-) And you'd need quite a ladder to reach those top shelves.

Nice to see a beautiful, massive piece of furniture find a good home and a purpose.

Wow! I'm not sure what I think.

That's not very appealing to me. The juxtaposition just doesn't do it for me.

I understand the idea, but I am not really a fan of the execution. I would want to be able to tuck away everything but the hutch itself. I would have like white minimalism and some sort of concealing mechanism. And I would have used a German chandelier, not a Venetian one.

I think it's neat, but i have some concerns about the lack of a vent hood and all those open storage dishes. Also it looks like a squeeze to get to the sink.

We have an excellent vent hood over the range in our kitchen, it's definitely not the standard for our neighborhood. But my cookbooks over the cooking area, frequently used seasonings etc next to the range, and other open storage items all stay clean and don't get that layer of sticky that can happen with inadequate ventilation. When i look at kitchens, i always check out the location and size of the vent hood

I like the idea, except for those awful natural flat drawers by the cooktop - looks terrible with the hutch. But I really don't think it's functional at all.

Interesting idea, but not well executed.

Does anyone here have an island like that? I'm wondering, even with brakes on, if it's a bit rickety to work on.

No. Just no. I want to reset my memory back to the period before seeing that photo. Sorry.

I love the idea and it's fun to look at, but I'm not excited about the execution. I think the wood drawers on the stainless unit look a bit odd. I'd rather see all stainless - and a vent. I think it all looks a bit cramped as well. I can well imagine accidentally jamming the corner of wood cabinet into my side while washing dishes. Ouch.

That piece of furniture gives me the heebie-jeebies. Just too massive and frou-frou for me. Not to mention non-functional. I wouldn't like it in any room, let alone the kitchen!

Not exactly like a billion other kitchens so me likey.

the massive vintage piece looks like it blocks access on both sides, and that mess under the island would drive me crazy.

The proportions stick out as wrong. The wood piece is enormous, and the island is teeny, tiny.

    Not a fan.

Oh, I love the reactions! It certainly is a conversation starting kitchen, lol! I wouldn't ever want it in my own house, but I love its weirdness.

Much too heavy looking for me.

I do have a stainless prep table in the center of my small u-shaped kitchen, Flowerpwr45.. I did mine a bit differently, using two shelves, hooks on one short end, and paper towels on the other. I did not use the wheels on it, so I can't say if they would make is seem wobbly. I do love mine, though, and consider it one of the most useful things in my kitchen.

Mrs. Flintstone helped Mrs. Jetson design her kitchen. This one with the piano island is as far as I'll go

I thought immediately of VEB! She definitely would have the fancy antique cabinet in the kitchen. The rest of it - meh

That piano is fabulous...I have a repurposed melodeon as a vanity.

I love the concept but not the execution. Functionally it seems lacking - there doesn't seem to be enough room to stand in front of the sink and there is no ventilation/fan above the stove. Style wise, it seems to be a jumble and not in a good way. The chandelier is fighting with the wood cabinet both for style and as a focal point.

That's a long trip from the sink to the stove.

It makes me want to see the before. If the ornate wood built in was not there when they began I would REALLY not understand what they did or why.

I would use the carved buffet/hutch, in a large dining space or mans bar.
