Some - not all - lily bulbs are poisonous. Lily bulbs have long played a role in Asian diets and a number of different types of lilies are sold in groceries and markets throughout the far east as well as in Asian markets in this country. And these include Lilium lancifolium, aka Turk's Cap. So yes, it is true :-)

Thanks Gardengal. I did a huge pot of Stargazers for a friend and she gave them away. Afraid her cat or dog would poison themselves. Maybe I can interest her in L. lancifolium.
