That looks nice. I think the pergola could look just right, as long as you have some nice landscaping around it to soften it up. When the time comes, you could go on the gardening boards on here and ask the people in your state what would work well to plant.

Maybe try widening the walkway and adding a slight curve. And I agree that second door needs to go. The windows all look like different styles so add trim to make them look more cohesive.

Japanese maples, dogwoods, crape myrtles are all smallish is trees that would be good starting points for landscaping. One or two could be placed along walkway ... Up lighting the trees and/or path lighting would guide visitors to your front door.

Pergola is cute. Good idea especially if it protects you and guests from rain/hot sun.

Not sure which door is the main entrance but I think closing off the right door and then putting a slider or French doors in place of the adjacent window would really update the look. Add pergola or porch as you mentioned.

Paint and landscaping will work wonders.

Have the roof cleaned. Will make make a huge difference. Add new color to house and garage doors to complement or match the accent colors on the house.

One thing to keep in mind is that adding something at the roof line that isn't attached can look VERY strange! I don't mean to be offense, but our neighbor added a covered porch that comes very low off a roof line like yours and I kid you not, I'm sure it reduced the property value rather than increased it as it makes it look like a shanty. If you want to change the structure of the house and have it look right, hire an architect to help you.

Also keep in mind that a nicely landscaped yard as in green grass if you aren't in an area that is plagued by drought adds a lot of curb appeal as it makes the place look well maintained. If you are in dry area, having a nice lawn is something you're not going to be able to have. You can always buy a few large ceramic pots to put some colorful flowers in around the front of the house.

If you remove that door, you're going to have to side the area. Make sure you can get the same siding, and either repaint the house or make sure you know the colors so you can repaint it so it blends in. Hopefully the current homeowners have some paint they'll leave you. You don't want to have an area that is different or it's going to look strange. We have that up the street as well where a door was taken out, and different siding painted a different color was put in. It distracts from the look of the house.
