What is the hidden storm shade?

There is a slot for a storm shutter without comments.

    This is a picture of a 2nd story balcony. Below the support columns you will find the newel posts and balustrade system. There is a small space under the balustrade system and this is just simply design preference. Below the balustrade you will see a small roof section to cover the first floor. on the soffit side of the roof you will find decorative brackets. Below the decorative brackets you will find windows. I hope this answers your question. Please let me know if it did not.

      I'm not sure what the gap is in the picture. Going down the support columns and frame, could it possibly be a screen on storm panel?

      Oh ok now I see it haha! Sorry about that! Your talking about up at the top of the columns there is a small space. My apologies! You know, I am not really sure if that is what they did with it. We actually just supplied the architectural details of the home. However, I would assume since it is down here in Florida that is most likely exactly what they did. Good eye!

      Thanks for the timely response. If you know the builder or find out anything more I'd be very interesting, as would everyone else in Florida or other pesky bug afflicted areas.
