    We used clear cedar in a ship-lap profile ... finish is clear lacquer (spray finish/multi-coat/satin finish). Wood was a great ceiling finish material for this project, not just because it is beautiful, but because the large expanses of glass would have shown every imperfection on a drywall ceiling. Certainly it is more common to use wood on the floor, but we turned it upside-down by doing wood on the ceiling, then travertine on the floors. Wood on both floor and ceiling would (no pun intended) have been too much wood!

    Yes. Light-gauge steel ceiling framing suspended from structure, 5/8" type x gypsum drywall, 1/2" plywood, and finish cedar.
