Got scapes?

I checked my garlic Friday morning prior to leaving for a fishing trip and thought I saw some short little scapes poking out of some Music, German extra hardy, and Estonia Red but wasn't quite sure if they were new leaves or scapes as they were only a few inches long. Checked again last night after getting home and sure enough there are skinning little umbels forming now on 8-9" scapes. Won't be long now till I'll be having grilled garlic scapes. This is the second earliest I have ever had scapes forming only behind 2012's May 10 and nine days before last year's May 24.

Had time to look a little closer last night and all 12 hardneck types I am growing have scapes forming except Chesnok Red and Russian red. Now I just need the weather to start drying out so I don't have to dig them out of the mud in June. I would like to pull the mulch off of them in the 4x10 raised beds to help them dry out some but it is a jungle in there!

I have scapes on both soft neck and hard neck--Early Italian Purple, Korean Red. German Red and another softneck given to me w/the name of Sicilian Red. No sign of scapes on Music or German Extra Hardy yet.

No scapes yet on my hardneck German White or Russian Red (Fall planted). They are making nice stalks though... really hoping for some scapes soon!

No scapes on my German Red or Carpathian yet (the only two hardnecks I grow). They'll probably show in another couple weeks.

I harvested a couple dozen yesterday and grilled them last night. Yum! Only some of the early types were ready Music, German extra hardy, and Purple Glazer.
