You will have to wait until they dry out, the pod will begin to break open..Yes you can plant the seeds, but it will take several yrs to get a bloom from seed and then the iris will not look like the original plant...Also there is a big possibility it doesnt have any seeds at all in it..

As an iris hybridizer, I can give you a bit more info here. Irises seldom cross pollinate in nature. It is quite likely that your pods are sterile: no seed. But not necessarily. Leave them on the stalk until they turn tan and begin to crack open. You will then see seeds or empty. If there are seeds, save them until Thanksgiving, then plant them in a pot with about an inch of cover soil and leave outside thru the winter. Sounds simple, but there is a catch. Iris seeds have a coating on them of a 'germination inhibitor' which must be washed off by keeping the seeds constantly damp until they germinate in the spring. If they dry out the inhibitor will kick in and prevent germination. If you get sprouts, let them grow in the pot till 7 or 8 inches tall, then transplant to a garden spot. fertilize well and then water well every week till you see significant growth. They will not bloom till the next year, and then some may not bloom till the following year. Littlebit is right, they will look different from the pod parent to one degree or another.

I'm just not getting over this.... Will I be able to get more of the same by dividing the plants I have?

Marycatt.. You should be able to dig and divide the Siberian iris that you have to be able to have more plants... I dont grow them..they dont do well here... but you can also order some from reliable sources..I would recommend http://www.schreinersgardens.com/siberian-iris-c6242....
