At the junction of each leaf and the stem, is an 'axillary bud'. This bud can produce a new shoot with flowers on it. There was apparently a mutation that affected flower color,x that occurred in the tissue of the axillary bud before it grew into a shoot. Since the second flower that you saw on the shoot was the same color as the first flower, it appears that the mutation affected the entire shoot and my be genetically stabile. If you want to generate a plant with this new color, take a cutting from the affected stem and root it. Good luck! John
