Painting oak cabinets

Hi I have a kitchen full of ugly orange stained oak cabinets, I was wanting to paint them 2 tone, a kinda white wash on the top and a green on the bottom. Is it possible to paint a white wash after sanding the cabinets, or will there be a risk of a residual orange seeping through?

The white wash will allow the orange tone to continue to show through and create the "pickled" look from the 80's. Generally results in a pinky or orangy/salmon tone to the cabinets. I think I would go ahead and just fully paint them white or off white.
