I have 2 Restoration Hardware Maxell sofas (stocked Brompton Cocoa Leather), down wrapped foam core. I am having issues getting the "luxe" depth (extra deep) sofa to be comfortable and provide any type of support. I originally tested this in store and suspected this might be a challenge, so ordered the regular depth (not in store), however the back was so stiff that it was not comfortable at all and made my posture feel so erect that it just didn't seem right for a large family room off the kitchen (the main lounging/gathering place in the house), so I exchanged it for the luxe depth. This sofa was impossible to sit in without throw pillows, which is when my challenge began. I have been searching for the right combo of pillows to make this sofa practical. Currently I have 3 RH lumbar pillows (18x24") and 2 smaller square pillows (18-20") on each sofa. The lumbar pillows aren't doing the trick, as they tend to give no upper body support and cause the back to just recline, so you get a nice view of the ceiling. The smaller ones are so small they don't do much. I sometimes try to use the smaller square over the lumbar, but that is awkward too. I am wondering if having several larger (24x24"?) square pillows along the entire length of the back cushions would help "fill in" the void and allow for more custom support. A designer I am now working with recommended against this since it would be messy and pillows flopping around everywhere, which I tend to agree. But I am almost at the point of selling these new and relatively pricey sofas on eBay and starting over. Sitting on the floor is actually more comfortable than these "luxe" sofas, so I really need some help figuring this out. I called RH to get some recommendations, and all they could really offer is exchange back to the regular depth and/or exchange to all foam core. Does anyone have any experience with these sofas and advice? I've seen pics on Houzz and they look lovely (as do mine), but I am wondering how real people are using these or if they are just for show. Thanks!
