How do I block the heat between an electric fireplace and tv?

I'm at the framing stage of finishing my basement, so I still have lots of options open to me. I'd like to install a built-in electric fireplace with a tv mounted above. The manufacturer says to allow 3 feet between the fp and tv, but this creates an odd look aesthetically. Is there a way to install a heat block between the two and place them closer together, or built out a faux mantle to redirect the heat? I wonder if this is really even a problem since the fireplace only puts out 5000 BTU. Your input greatly appreciated.

For safety and warranty reasons you need to adhere to the manufacturer's instructions. You can position a mantle in between, but there will also be restrictions on the size and placement of the mantel. Those should be in the manufacturer's instructions as well. Do you have the fireplace sitting down at floor level? If not, you may want to do that so that the TV is not so high.

FP will be 6" off the floor. I think I'll put sheet metal in the wall between the tv and fp and hope for the best. Don't have the recommended 3 feet. If I did that, the tv would be ceiling-mounted!
