I think you need an area rug large enough for all the furniture to sit on (at least the front legs). My 2 cents.

Some colour on the walls would help, and then pick a rug with that colour in it somehow.

A new furniture arrangement would make all the difference here. Place the TV on the sofa wall, move the sofa so it faces the high wall, hang the art on that wall. Move both chairs, one sort of under the art work, the other at a slight angle, next to the first chair, but facing the TV. Small table between the chairs also, with a lamp. Then take a look and decide about an area rug.

Also, the ottoman could be used as the table in front of the sofa, simply add a tray for drinks and such. Also, a sofa table behind the sofa once it is repositioned. Just my thoughts.
