Stain - Minwax Wood Finish in Red Oak 215

Paint - Behr Marquee, Limousine Leather in Eggshell

Finishing Coat - Minwax fast dying Polyurethane, clear semi-gloss (used on stained wood only)

I love seeing these before and after pictures. There are so many people shopping for new furniture, and it's right in front of them. Of course, you need to have the right skills and materials to have such a beautiful result. Also, I realize not everyone has a work area to do this kind of work.

I do have the luxury of a small front lawn and tiny garage, where most of the work was done....by all means not, but I made it work creatively for me.

I have a heavy oval oak table (with two leaves) and six chairs to match, and I've been wanting to do something like what you did but too chicken to try such a big project (and no experience). With a full house of seven, it's not something I can dwaddle on once I start it. Love seeing your finished project. Saved your 'after' for inspiration...maybe when the four kids are grown and out of the house. :-D

I did something similar with my oak table and chairs. I was too lazy to mask off the bottoms of the chairs so changed them all to black. Stripped the top and changed the stain color from Special Walnut to Maple to better match our natural cherry kitchen cabinets. Used Minwax Polyshades in Black for chairs and table base and legs, Minwax stain and poyurethane for the table top. I was concerned about paint chipping with heavy use of the chairs--polyurethane is such a thin film build much lower risk of chips.

I purchased a paint sprayer (Earlex) which worked great for doing the chair spindles and legs. I've used the sprayer for other furniture and to stain a shed so it has gotten lots of use. Great tool for the DIYer.
