Enjoying some down time

Beautiful day yesterday and today. I move with the sun, sit on the back
porch awhile, then move to the glider in the garden, then down to the
bistro set in the orchard for tea . : ) Try very hard to just relax
and DON"T PULL THOSE WEEDS. I did fairly well this morning, except for
pulling a handful of weeds out from between stones under the wrought
iron table in the garden. Now I'll put the kettle on.

Neighbors all around me are firing up their grills, I can't see them, but I think I smell burgers or steak. I should have bought a pack of hot dogs and made one to eat with my tea to celebrate the holiday with them. My flag outside the old schoolhouse door keeps flapping in the breeze and ultimately wraps itself around the pole. Of course I can't stand that, so I have to reach up and straighten it.

Hope you are having a nice Memorial Day weekend, altho I usually associate May 30th. with Mem.Day. Maybe I'll buy hotdogs next weekend.

Thanks cyn. Went downtown awhile ago to buy a salad for supper, on a whim also picked up a pack of hot dogs, buns, and a container of mac.salad from the deli for tomorrow. Other than the mac.salad, I'll still have a hot dog next Saturday with ya'.

I cross posted on the Home Dec. forum to get some ideas about the outdoor bed or sleeping porch. Found lots of photos on the web but they were pretty fancy. One time a friend and I went into an old abandoned house and upstairs there was a large, low window that looked out onto a long porch. Afterwards I read that this was common in past days, you just lifted the window and went out onto the porch to sleep in warm weather,etc. Also I remember at Stan Hywet Hall, the Sieberling mansion in Akron,O., has a small sleeping porch off the master bedroom. It is said that Mr. Sieberling preferred sleeping there year round! said it was good for the constitution.

Well, it didn't last but almost. I was daydreaming about a sleeping porch in a small clearing by the privet arch, noticed some dead privet branches needing taken off here and there, finally got the loppers from the barn and did a few. Of course it didn't stop there. Now I have two big piles of privet branches to gather up and dispose of - tomorrow.

Sounds lovely schoolhouse. I too have done little other than look at the weeds, but am about to head outside to tackle some part of the garden/yard. There are so many weedy spots from which to choose! Yikes.

I agree about the 30th being Memorial Day. How about if we both celebrate together (even though apart in reality)? I will pick up some hot dogs this week and have one outside on the patio next Saturday and think of you!

I'm imagining a hammock with a big swath of tulle draped over a clothes line to keep the bugs out. Probably need something a lite more substantial to keep the dew off. Maybe a lean-to with tulle hung from the upper edge. There really is nothing like the sounds of a summer evening to drift off to sleep by, with a cool breeze wafting over tired muscles and sunburned skin.

I can just see me trying to get in and out of a hammock. Boy it's been years since I've tried that.

I saw something at Lowes that is like those gliders with an awning within a metal frame? Only it could fold out flat into a bed. I thought that was nice, but it really wouldn't look rustic enough in the area where I'd like to put it. On the Home Dec. forum someone posted a wicker outdoor daybed from Walmart that was interesting. Again, maybe a little to fancy.

Oh by the way I did get all the privet branches picked up and hauled to the brush pile this morning. I was still tired and achy from yesterday so it was a struggle.
