I've always seen it listed as medium. I planted a small Twilight last year under a black walnut, and this year it's already quite a bit bigger than "small". I keep meaning to walk to the back fence line and get a picture of it. It's interesting because it was the same size as 2 others I planted in the front and the back one is at least twice as big as the front ones.

Striking hosta!

Your Whirlwind is beautiful. Here I find it to be a nice looking, reliable hosta but very late to open and slow to grow. Maybe people list it as small because it takes a while to get big!.

4 ringing the bird bath where it is next to impossible to grow anything else. Seems to be slightly bigger than say a Minuteman. Medium to me. It is a fast grower and while not getting very tall it will fill out some area quickly.

Whirlwind is just one of a handful of hostas that I have trouble growing for some reason. Don't know why, but I keep plugging away with it . I hate to admit defeat!

Looks like you all need to see a "humble" representation so here is mine as of this morning. It's been a transient so far...since 2011! First it was planted, then potted, now still potted....but it's the fullest it has looked for this time of year and it is still unfurling. So I'd say it's "a small with potential" here, not through any fault of its own. LOL

Jerry, that is a terrific picture...and your Whirlwind is outstanding!

I do like it old_dirt, I think they make a good edging plant and I have a lot of space to fill.

I finally walked to the back to check on the "black walnut bed" as I named it. Guacamole and Whirlwind are loving that spot. Here's the Whirlwind that was a little plant last year, this year a nice size.

Mine gets baked in full sun all day and loves it.

Has grown slowly for me but has survived. June is also pretty and seems more vigorous.

What a great hosta--I may have bought it late last year but if not, it's a definite purchase this year!

Glad to hear it is a late emerger. Mine has not come up yet and I was getting worried that I either moved it last year and forgot where I put it, or that it didn't come back, even though it has been a good grower for me for at least 8 years. Hope to see some pips soon from it. It is striking in spring for sure!

I could sit and stare at that Whirlwind picture all afternoon.
