I recommend square, its free and very easy to use as well, it's what I use for my small business

can you explain free...my wife is looking into this as well...everything she has seen takea (small) percentage of the sale...I am confused...

The device itself may available at no cost but every merchant pays a fee as a percentage of the sale to the credit card processing company. In the case of Square, it's something like 2.75%. Depending on the volume you anticipate from credit card sales, you may want to shop around to see if you can get a better deal.

I would strongly recommend that you read the merchant agreement very carefully. When will the money be deposited into your bank account, what happens when a customer disputes a charge, etc.?

I've used other readers and Square has the best deal for small businesses. No other charges except the 2.75%. While you can get a lower rate for mastercard and visa, the 2.75% rate is great for taking AMEX as their rates are normally higher. I do get a lot of AMEX cards so for me it's a great deal.

My bil and dh use paypal. Free as in you don't have to buy any equipment or pay a monthly fee, but they do take a % out of every sale. You can either plug the reader into an iphone or ipad and swipe a card. Or you can enter the card # manually. The big drawback with entering manually is that paypal will hold the money for a month. We are going to change because of that. Dh has too many customers who call and order something over the phone and want to just charge it to the card they used before.
