Cove molding or no cove molding?

The tread will be stained dark, and the risers will be painted white. If I have the cove molding installed, it will be stained dark as well.

I'm thinking the molding provides a bit more of a finished look, but I also feel it may make my stairs look too traditional. I love modern designs, but my house is not really that modern with the molding and shape of the railings/spindles.
