You have a nice space and I like the floor and the parameter of the room... To add difference and colour could you consider different lighting perhaps sophisticated fibre optics would give you various "mood" options and it would be a talking point too. Furthermore being a hall you wouldn't be exposed to it all the time it could be a fun room to walk in and out of?

Actually I was thinking of installing those cool lamps from Ballard Design. They would hanging down a bit. That might break up the starkness of the hall. Thanks!

Wallpaper!! Nice light pattern wallpaper will transform any boring hallway/corridor.

All great ideas. I was thinking maybe even doing vertical thick stripes in just a shimmer or lighter colour. Another option would be a chair rail trim that you cold paint out on the bottom half or add square trim in between to match your doors, but might look too busy Here a few photos:
Stripes(these ones are horizontal, might make your hallway look even longer, so I would do vertical)

Lights no runner (you have beautiful floors)
Lower trimwork

I like the idea of a chevron hall runner: The pattern seems to push the walls apart, while shortening the length.

Ahh... Thanks for showing this. Are you looking to do two-three or one-two in the hallway. For my money I'd want to do more than one to give it some interest...!!
