Allura/Certainteed shingle siding

Does anyone have experience using Allura (used to be Certainteed) shingle siding? I'm interested in their new stain color Slate. Also like the solid colors Linen and Silverplate/Sterling Grey. I'm about to start building a house and would love to see photos of those colors before I make my decision. Thanks!

We used Certainteed pre-finished weather boards ten years ago. We replaced countless boards due to cracking and the painters are repainting the house this summer due to fading, despite a 30 year warranty on the finish. I have no knowledge of Allura but would not use Certainteed again.

Wow! What about the warranty? Wouldn't they replace them?

Certainteed sold off their fiber cement line and it's now called Allura. Every time I have seen Certainteed mentioned on this forum, someone immediately mentions class action lawsuits. However, if you Google it, there have been suits against Hardie for the same garbage. Yet nobody ever trashes Hardie.

I wasn't able to get Allura locally due to Hardie's marketing practices, so I can't say how it holds up.

    Interesting. Thanks for the info.

The warranties often are not worth the paper they are written on. They are paying for the paint, lol.

Amberm..I am not trashing Certainteed. I am sharing my experience with my siding. It was a huge investment in my home. I wish somebody had done that for me. I might have gone a different direction.

I didn't mean to imply that you were. I'm sure it's been frustrating.

Michelle- did you install shingles or lap board siding? What color did you use?

Hi, I am having the same issue right now trying to find a weathered grey looking shake cement board product and I posted an almost identical question about allura shake siding in the slate color. No responses. Did you end up going with it? If not what did you decide on and how do you like it? We are building right now in Texas and no one seems to have any experience with these products!! I appreciate your help!!

We put maxitile which they tell me is now called Allura. After 5 yrs. We're are experiencing gaps and had a piece of it fall off. It appears the contractor followed the instructions exactly. I just am starting to file a warranty claim, but that looks like it's going to be pretty hard to get any help from company. Everything I've been reading is they usually have a way of getting out of any responsibility.

If anyone can give me some help on this situation. I'm open!!

Why? Is there any particular reason?

I am investigating an issue regarding California homeowners who experienced siding problems.

Allura is just rebranded Certainteed weatherboard. I don't trust them.

I participated in the Certainteed class action suit & I was fortunate enough to get my first ½ settlement within 8 months.
Hoping they have something left for the 2nd & final payment.

Noticed the long boards are more succeptible to the warping & cracking than the shakes which are shorter &

I am having 2.5 sides of my lower level replaced with Hardie.

    No more Certainteed.

I decided not to participate in the class action suit. i doubted that it would be worth the stress and headaches. certainteed replaced many boards (we paid the labor for installation) and the paint. it cost us 7k in labor to paint the house and of course the labor to replace the cracked and defective boards.

done with fiber cement. our first and last experience with the product. prob probably no perfect product out there, so we rolled the dice with the new house we are in and used real cedar. daughter is using hardie on a new house in chicago area. crossing my fingers.

@ILoveRed - Did you go through the regular 50 year warranty? If so - how long did it take for them to get you compensated?

I am asking because I want to ding them on the fading paint 15 year warranty for the factory baked paint on my lap siding.

I was surprised how easy the settlement was for me & while I was anxious to get final word, it was pretty straightforward to get all the paper work in.

I took a weekend to document my Certainteed failures - fortunately they were all first floor damages - & another weekend to sort through the hundreds of pictures I took & send it all in via their upload system; 70 pics & measurements of my house. Sent them in 1 month before the Settlement expiration set in.

Geomtery - which I was horrible at in HS - came in handy. :D

I cant recall all of the details. i was thinking our painted finish had a 30 yr warranty on the finish against fading. the south side of the house was terribly faded after 7 years. and of course none of the new boards matched anywhere on the house which required that the whole house be painted.

they did not pay for the paint job. we did. they just paid for the paint.

@ILoveRed - did they come out to inspect your claim or just went by your submission & pictures?
