Painting wood floor

After pulling up carpet in our living room we discovered deep pet stains from the previous owners pets. We tried cleaning, bleach and sanding, but they are still too dark for stain. We don't want to carpet again and can't afford new hardwood. What are your thoughts on painting?

Have you had a professional look at it? When we had our pulled up we found a large hole that was filled with plywood. Our guy removed flooring from our closets to fill in the hole, you can't tell there was ever an issue.

it can be done. my main concern would be durability.
