I've wondered the same thing. I am going to wait and give the stressed out plants time to recover before I do anything. I think they are waterlogged more than any thing and need to warm up and dry out. I transplanted a knockout rose during the rain, i couldn't wait it was dying in its spot, and it looks terrible hope I don't loose it. I'm surprise my roses are not covered in black spot but so far not a sign of it. I know it's hard not to do anything but I think they just need time.

I think you do need to wait because roots that are waterlogged are literally clogged up with water and cannot take up nutrients properly until that waterlogging goes away. That waterlogging is one of the reasons that plants look so bad after they have endured heavy rainfall and saturated soil for a prolonged period of time-----there can be tons of nutrients there in the ground but the water in the soil and in the roots interferes with the plants' ability to absorb and use those nutrients.

The only way I know of to feed plants that are heavily waterlogged is to use a water-soluble fertilizer and to mist it only onto the leaves (mist it heavily) so that it can be absorbed through the foliage and not via the roots. Right now, any fertilizer applied to the ground likely would drain away with the excess water that is saturating the soil, so it would be a waste of time and effort and fertilizer as well.

Thanks. I certainly have plenty to do, so the wait will help me. I cannot believe that one of my next projects is to get down the soaker hoses so that the will not lie on top of the mulch when I put that down. It would be easier to put down the fertilizer now, but it will go through the mulch when I put it down.
