Who's room is it in? Guest, master, child?

Hi, these are some ideas below and may take some DIY and/or contractor changes for retro/repairs/updates.

Take out the framed in seat altogether and

- add a small built in or stand alone desk or maybe even a make-up vanity.

- add a built in cabinet with drawers (additional storage is always a good thing) that can still be used as and set up as a window seat (even if for just extra seating, a cute vignette or internet surfing on Houzz :-))

- add in a lower seat (with storage) for a pet bed.....if you have any fur babies, I think they'd love a comfy window seat! :-)

don't feel bad that you don't read in it, they are pretty to look at but not comfortable for a long sit. but you could use it for your morning tablet check in of fb and email. have table for your coffee mug and you'll have charming new ritual.

Sometimes you need a space to daydream. Paint everything behind the arch your favorite color and add pillows and a throw. On one wall add one of those frames with wire fencing inside and create a memory holder, put things (pictures, versus, invitations.....) that remind you of a happy time.

i have a similar nook....i had a vanity/makeup table built into mine.

I'd make it deep enough for a chair & high enough for a desk where you can look out the window do work or study etc. I would paint the inset a color that inspires you and compliments the room.

I'm unable to knock the bottom part out, since I would be renting this house. so it has to stay as is. :/

Jessica, I am unclear what you are asking: you have a seat that cannot be removed, and you don't want to sit on it...That leaves you with table surface that you can use as you would any other table surface. What are we missing, please?

I was looking for any other unique ideas as to what I could do with this space. just gathering ideas.
sometimes someone would come up with things I would have never thought of. so what's better than asking hundreds of people who are into design. :)

Unique ideas for table surface in alcove:

Bird cage.

Exotic plants.

Large glass sculpture/ artwork.

Hanging bead curtain over entire area.

Grille panel " ".

Glass shelves across window for your crystal/ geode/ unicorn collection.

Snake tank.

Steiff Bear seat.

could you add a nice Roman blind? I am not sure how much construction you want to do, so I will not suggest anything structural, but Tonic Living has a nice selection of fabrics. I got mine made there.

I think I might hang terrariums and maybe put a little cat bed attached to the wall. not sure. thanks for the ideas everyone
