Those are weeds. I get them in my garden. Just pull out. If your hibiscus made it through the winter, it will start sending shoots up around the old stock. I live in zone 5, and mine hasn't started coming up yet. MIL lives 15 miles away . Hers is up abou 6-8". Pull the weeds and wait longer.

Looks like weeds to me. Young hibiscus looks exactly like a grown one, only smaller, of course.

Idk 9 yrs later I just see your post and i am wondering the same about my Hibicus. I thought it was dead, I ferttilized it and now something is growing. I must say your ”weeds” look similar to mine. I

am not giving up too soon still keeping faith that this may be another Hibicus 🌺 growing from the root.

Now I’m back 9 years later! I must know if you’re turned out to be Hibiscus! 🌺 I hope so!!
