leramos1 - judging by the color this could be Ipe, Redwood, or Dinizia. In the case of all three (and any wood for that matter), maintaining the original color is achieved through regular maintenance - re-oiling, and possibly power-washing if needed. Frequency of maintenance depends on the sun & weather exposure the wood receives. If maintenance is neglected, these woods will turn gray:

We are designing an entry with wood (ipe) cladding on the exterior wall of the entry (w/ lots of sun exposure), this continues into an interior wall (much less sun exposure). I would like to use Ipe but am concerned the maintenance of the Ipe of the interior wall would require burdensome prep before re-oiling. I'm wondering if maintaining the original ipe color will be as simple as re-oiling the wood w/o special prep beforehand. Thanks for the advice.

My research tell me that Ipe Oil would be the product of choice for Ipe. I understand reapplication requires simply wiping the oil on. Has this been your experience with Ipe? Thanks for the advice.

leramos1 - while we haven't specifically used Ipe oil (Ipe is not a species we sell because it is not currently available reclaimed), we have heard good things about the penetration & performance of Ipe oil on Ipe.
